Esteban Carpio. Police say he jumped out a third-story window and that explains why his face looks like hamburger, to the extent that they have to put a mask over the worse damage, which would have been to his cheeks, nose, mouth, cheeks, and chin.
Now, I'm wondering if he even jumped out of a window. Usually they forsee possibilities such as that one and use unbreakable glass and other restraints.
Maybe that story about him jumping out of a window was simply a way to explain why his face looked so bad.
I once met a man before a New Year's Celebration and after he got jumped, beaten senseless and came to in the hospital. His eyes looked . . . just like Esteban Carpio's eyes did behind that mask.
The question of police savagery is a separate question from that of guilt or not guilty. Because the question of police savagery has to do with the constitutional right to a trial before punishment. That's the right that was violated by these police with impunity.
